Devin Barone [DVB] (b. 1996) is a composer, percussionist, and glitchy boi from Bay Shore, NY. They create music in a variety of settings, with roots in classical and contemporary music, the various genres of the modern drummer, and soundtracks.
Recently, Devin completed “[unity]” and “Flox.exe,” two large scale electronic concept albums of glitchy video game-inspired music, based in concepts and gesture, that follow different AI as they encounter issues in their thought-processes. Alongside these are explorations in motivic development, rhythm and timbre for orchestra and chamber ensembles.
DVB’s solo timpani work “Impetus” is recognized in the New York State School Music Association [NYSSMA] Manual ed. 32, and full orchestra piece “Expansion!” was performed at the 2013 TVMF Young Composers Forum at age 16. A variety of their electronic works mentioned above have been presented at NYC-EMF, Electroacoustic Barn Dance, Frontwave EMF, and OUA-EMF in Japan in 2018 and 2020.
Devin is also co-creator, composer and co-writer of the webcomic with music “The All Story: FLIGHT!”, which is currently in development.
In 2020 Barone earned his MFA in Music Composition at the Vermont College of Fine Arts and has studied with John Mallia, Don DiNicola, Carla Kihlstedt, Mike Early, Paul Coleman, Jamie Leigh Sampson, Rob Deemer, and Ed Schaefer. DVB has also had the opportunity to work with performers such as Grammy award winning cellist Andrew Yee, composer/performer Sarah LeMieux, and contemporary ensembles loadbang, and The City of Tomorrow.
